How Fit Do Riders Need To Be?


Research has shown that readers do improve their fitness when riding. Our heart rate levels average at around 60-85% of our maximum heart rate, so will improve your general fitness levels. However do riders need to do other forms of cardio exercise to improve their riding?


Why We Measure Movement


The adult skeleton is made up of approximately 206 bones (anatomical variations between individuals do exist), 642 muscles, not to mention tendons, ligaments, blood vessels, and lymph vessels. All these components act as a functional unit controlled by a highly sensitive nervous system comprising the brain, spinal cord, millions of nerve cells and nerve fibres. The human body is designed to move evolving originally from a hunter/gather lifestyle. Modern day man is typically more sedentary as a result of technological and scientific advances. This can have a huge impact on our physiological, musculoskeletal and neurological health and well-being and essentially on how we move.
